Straw pellets outperform wood pellets on absorbency and sustainability, traditional straw on equine health and consistency, and most other equine bedding materials on ease of use, odour suppression, positive environmental impact and all-round user-friendly convenience.

A Top Quality, Natural Bedding

When we began developing equine bedding over 20 years ago, our aim was to offer horse owners in the UK a top quality, natural bedding tailor-made to help them safeguard their horses’ health and wellbeing in the stable.

This is still our mission, but of course no single bedding option will suit every owner or every horse. Many owners today still use traditional straw, and there is a bewildering variety of equine bedding materials available ranging from shredded hemp to diced paper. But the largest number of non-shavings bedding buyers in the UK today are choosing wood pellets.

So we have done our research once again and developed a bedding option that maximises the benefits of pellets for you, your horse and the environment by making them from straw.

Making a Strawmax Bed

Strawmax straw pellets work equally well on concrete or rubber matting, and as always when making a fresh bed, they work best in a clean and hygienic stable.  To create the bed for a 12 ft x 12 ft stable use between six and eight bags.

Method 1

Lay bags over stable floor & slice open.
Water generously.
Leave for an hour to allow pellets to absorb water.
Tip each bag onto stable floor then fluff & spread.

Method 2

Empty each individual bag direct onto the clean stable floor.
Water generously with a hose pipe.
Leave for an hour to allow pellets to absorb water.
Fluff & spread.

Maintaining Your Strawmax Bed

Remove droppings daily with a close-tined fork and remove very wet patches as required.
Top up as necessary to maintain the optimum depth, this is usually between 1-2 pre watered bags per week.
Muck-out daily and top up with 1-2 bags as necessary per week.
Periodically it is recommended to remove all the bedding and sanitise.
