Ecobale Ltd

cobale cardboard animal bedding is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional animal bedding. It provides a healthier, cleaner environment for animals, poultry and game and also makes an environmentally friendly packaging substitute for polystyrene chips.

ecobale cardboard animal bedding offers several benefits to animals, their owners and the environment. It is clean, comfortable, highly absorbent, cost-effective and biodegradable and provides a virtually dust, seed and spore-free environment, ideal for horses with COPD and animals with allergies or respiratory problems.

ecobale is produced using specialist shredding machinery that extracts dust before bagging, making this environmentally friendly animal bedding virtually dust-free.

ecobale is made from corrugated cardboard that is:

Perfectly clean and uncontaminated
Dust-extracted
Shredded
100% recycled

Corrugated cardboard means highly efficient absorption and insulation. Liquids drain quickly and are absorbed by the bottom layer leaving the top dry, giving maximum comfort for your animals.

ecobale is packed in bales of approximately 20kg and supplied in reusable plastic packaging.

ecobale cardboard animal bedding is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional materials used for animal bedding and game and poultry rearing like wood shavings and straw. It can also be used as an eco-friendly packaging filler, a greener alternative to polystyrene chips.

ecobale clean shredded corrugated cardboard provides a healthier, cleaner living and sleeping environment for all animals. It offers several benefits to animals, their owners and the environment:

Benefit 1: Environmentally friendly

100% recycled
Re-usable
Made from a renewable source
Easily composted and fully biodegradable: when composting, ecobale breaks down more rapidly than traditional bedding and can be used as an effective mulch

"Corrugated packaging is a reusable material made from a renewable resource."

"Corrugated board is not made from tropical forest hardwoods - they are entirely unsuitable for the process. The industry uses fast-growing softwoods, which are being replanted faster than they are being used."

"Packaging for a Fragile Planet" from The Confederation of Paper Industries www.cpi.org.uk

Benefit 2: Ideal for allergy suffering animals and labourers

ecobale is virtually dust, seed and spore-free
Cardboard animal bedding is recommended by several associations and professional bodies as beneficial to animals prone to allergies, Chronic Respiratory Pulmonary Disease or Inflammatory Airway Disease:

"Paper and cardboard are lower in dust and mould content than other beddings".

Animal Health Trust www.aht.org.uk

"…treatment plans should focus on improving the immediate environment in which the horse is kept together with medical management. The former situation may involve ensuring the horse is kept on bedding known to have lower concentrations of respirable dust or other airway irritants (e.g. paper or cardboard…)."

From a report on the Environmental Management of Inflammatory Airway Disease published by the International Veterinary Information Service www.ivis.org

"The use of low-dust bedding is also important for the COPD horse. … If bedding is used, then a minimum-dust material should be used, such as shredded paper or cardboard."

The International League for the Protection of Horses www.ilph.org

Benefit 3: Highly absorbent, comfortable, clean, safe and virtually odour-free

Absorbent: ecobale provides a cleaner, more comfortable environment for your animals. Fluids drain quickly through the absorbent bedding to the floor and are slowly absorbed into the bottom later, leaving the top layer dry and odourless.
Warm: Corrugated cardboard effectively traps warm air produced by your animal, creating a comfortably warm animal bed during those cold winter months.

Benefit 4: Easy to use

Healthier for the owner: no airborne allergen-causing dust, spores or seeds
ecobale does not crumble to dust during handling
Easy skipping & mucking out: ecobale effortlessly flows from the bale so no need to waste time and energy on that strenuous shaking routine that is necessary with traditional animal bedding.

ecobale environmentally friendly animal bedding is designed to make animal, poultry and game maintenance and mucking out much easier, cleaner and healthier. With ecobale you don’t need to perform the strenuous shaking ritual that is necessary with traditional animal bedding. Just open the bale and immediately you’ll see the bedding flow into the stable, pen or hutch ready for spreading. No clouds of dust, no mess and no fuss.

We have put together a guide to using ecobale. Please do not hesitate to Contact Us if you have any questions.
Your first ecobale animal bed

ecobale can be used to top up your traditional bedding. However, for the best, most efficient results, we suggest completely clearing any existing traditional animal bedding and starting anew with a fresh bed of ecobale.

Starting an ecobale bed

Its best not to skimp on your first ecobale bed: it could be a false economy. Remember that a well-stocked initial cardboard animal bed will require less topping up and maintenance in the long term. As a guide, ecobale is of a slightly greater volume to an average bale of wood shavings. Make sure you use enough and make a generous first ecobale animal bed.

How to make your ecobale bed

Completely muck out the stable or other living area
Empty ecobale onto your animal bedding surface
Spread the shredded cardboard bedding evenly over the surface
Make a firm bed and bank up the sides for best results

How much ecobale to use

The amount of ecobale cardboard animal bedding needed depends on several factors such as:

The amount of time the living area is occupied
The stable size
The depth of bedding required
The cleanliness of the animal
How you prefer to keep your animal’s living space

Skipping Out

Using a fork, cast the soiled shredded cardboard animal bedding against a wall to separate the muck from the bedding, allowing simple removal of droppings.

Removal of soaked bedding

Scrape away the surface bedding to reveal the bottom layer of wet bedding
Simply remove the wet bedding layer
Top up the animal bed with more ecobale

ecobale animal bed maintenance

To ensure a continuously fresh bed of ecobale with a minimised risk of contamination by dirt or dust:

Regularly clean the living area by gently tossing the bedding against the sides then sweeping away any small fragments left behind
Turn the bed on a regular basis
Toss the bedding with a fork to allow air to circulate
