All animals need to have the correct balance of calcium and magnesium. When a horse is highly strung or  becomes stressed, anxious, nervous or excited, they burn off magnesium. This allows calcium to overload muscle and nerve cells and replicates the rise of adrenaline. This can cause erratic behaviour, aggressiveness and/or tightening of muscles. Therefore ideal for those in all disciplines of competition, those on box rest, returning to work, foal/youngster preparation for the sales, pregnant/lactating mares    
 
Nupafeed Liquid Calmer uses a water soluble, complex, pure, amino magnesium which is able to enter the horses’ system very efficiently and absorb into tissue. Our liquid maintains the healthy balance of calcium and magnesium to keep the horse on an even keel, but without compromising performance.                                        
 

The Nupafeed Liquid Calmer can be introduced to the horses’ diet by directly adding to the normal feeding regime. As the compound is totally safe, it allows the level to be adjusted, enabling owners to find a level that suits each individual animal.

• MAH® is a clear liquid which you add to your horses hard feed.
• Horses must first have a loading dose; this is to replace the magnesium faster than they are burning it off so that you can correct the balance in their body.
• The loading dose should be given three times a day as this optimises absorption; if this is not possible twice a day is fine. You should leave a minimum of three hours between each dose to allow absorption.
• Maintain the loading dose until you have seen a significant improvement. Normally this is between 3 and 10 days (5 days is most common). Some may take less or more time depending on how low their levels are, how much work they are doing, how highly strung they are throughout the day etc.
• Once you have seen an improvement you can cut the loading dose down to a maintenance level. The maintenance level required depends on the horse, we suggest that you reduce the loading dose gradually until you get to the advised maintenance level, if you notice that your horse is starting to revert back, he is burning off more than you are giving him and you need to give him a little more.

Maintenance Dose – the level which we would expect an average horse to require per day having completed the loading dose. The level required can vary greatly depending on the horse (the more stressed or exited they are the more they burn off).

General Advice
• The key is to always think ahead, the MAH® does not work as a sedative and so will not quieten a horse once it has been unsettled. You need to ensure that your horse has enough of the MAH® to burn off each day so that the problem does not arise.
• The liquid takes around three hours to absorb completely, bare this in mind when feeding. For instance if you ride early in the morning you may want to give the MAH® Calmer with the evening feed. If your horse is continually worrying about things then it is often best to separate the required amount over a morning and evening feed.
• Always mix in the Nupafeed MAH® Calmer last thing before feeding so that it is not absorbed into the food which takes it through the digestive system without being absorbed fully.
• Avoid feeding sugar beat or bran with the calmer as these hinder absorption.
• You can vary the amount you feed day to day according to how much magnesium you anticipate your horse will be burning off, giving more for particularly stressful times. Ensure that you always give your horse its maintenance dose even if you won’t be needing the benefit for a few days, only stop feeding the MAH® if you will not be needing it for a significant period.
