Steel toe cap (EN20345) yard boot - with a sole that's safe for riding
This boot offers a great combination of comfort, durability and safety.
These CE marked-boots are proven to offer 200 Joules impact protection. This is the equivalent to dropping a 20kg wedge onto the toes from a height of 1020mm.
They are also tested to 15KN compression protection which corresponds to placing a 1.5 tonne pressure onto the steel toe.
The boot's sole is also subject to test. The sole has to be tough enough to prevent the toe cap sinking into it during the crushing or impact test and this is why Mountain Horse protective boots appear so sturdy.
The thick and chunky rubber outsole is designed for day-long work on the yard.
The full grain leather upper is sturdy and strong and provides great support for feet and ankles.
Removable EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) insoles add to the comfort factor.
If you've ever experienced the pain of having a horse tread on your foot, you'll understand why a top-of-the-range steel toe cap boot such as this is so important.
Perfect for:
Owners and grooms who spend all day on the yard mucking out.
Farriers, vets, students and anyone working with young horses.
Also great for gardening.
Riders who want a short pull-on boot they can wear straight from the yard into the stirrup.
Bear in mind:
This is a tough yard boot - it is designed to stand up to use on hard concrete yards, muddy fields and dirty stable beds - but you will still need to look after it in order for the leather to last (see below).
It does NOT have a waterproof lining. In order for water repellency to be maintained, regular treatment should be applied.
The removable cushioning insoles are easily replaced.
Fitting tip:
This boot has a roomy fit - some people find they go down a continental size (3/4 of a UK size).
They come with cardboard insoles which, when placed under the green insole, reduce the fit by one-half size. Use these when one foot is bigger than the other or when your usual size is too big but the size down is too tight.
Care advice:
Please remember, this trusty faithful boot is made from natural leather. It may be hardworking and hardwearing, but it will still need a little bit of love and care every now and then to help it perform at its best and last as long as possible. Abuse it and lose it!
